The Guam Society of America, Inc. honors Guam’s leaders at the local and federal levels of government. The Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Guam as well as Guam’s Congressional Delegate to the U.S. Congress are designated as Honorary (Non-Voting Members) of the Society by virtue of their leadership positions and roles as Guam’s leaders. Over the 70+ years of the Guam Society’s history, these leaders have come to understand and appreciate the support that the Society and its members provide to their offices. Regardless of political party or affiliation, the Society provides mutual support to these leaders simply because they represent Guam and its people. As a 501c3 non-profit organization, the Society does not provide political endorsements for these leaders, rather they stand ready to help promote the culture, language, awareness and pride for all who attend or participate in annual gatherings hosted/sponsored by the Society.
Honorable Lourdes ‘Lou’ Leon Guerrero (Governor of Guam)
Honorable Joshua ‘Josh’ Tenorio (Lieutenant Governor of Guam)
Honorable James ‘Jim’ C. Moylan (Congressional Delegate of Guam to the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Congress)
The Guam Society’s Manaina / Honorary Member Category recognizes long standing members who have made significant contributions to the Society beyond attendance and participation in the Society’s annual events and operations. These members have given their time, contributions, and devotion to the Society, ensuring its efforts are lasting and dynamic over many, many years in their involvement and support. Many have served and distinguished themselves above and beyond as Officers in the Society, Chairpersons (and founders) of major annual events and programs within the Guam Society. They have shown time and time again their commitment and dedication to the Society’s efforts throughout their time as members. Some have moved outside of the Washington, DC metro area, yet continue to keep in touch and promote the Society and its positive impacts for the Guam community in the DC metro area. They have made lasting and memorable contributions that have kept the Society moving forward as those who came before them did. After 70+ years as Guam’s Oldest Club/Organization in the U.S. mainland, these members are a testament to the founders of the Society and its lasting impact in the National Capitol Region. Although the term ‘manaina’ refers to ‘elders’ in the CHamorro language, these Manaina are not elevated and recognized because of their age, but on their timeless efforts over the many years they have been involved with Society.
