The 2024 Scholarship Program is closed.   The recipients were announced at the annual Guam Society Liberation Picnic on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Castle Park, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. 

The Society would like to congratulate the following recipients for this year’s scholarship awards:

  • Aemiliana ‘Mia’ Cruz (College Student Category) – $1,000.   Mia is the daughter of Anthony and Julie Cruz of Alexandria, Virginia and is a continuing her studies at Virginia Tech

  • Alexandria ‘Alex’ Watson (High School Student Category) – $1,000.   Alex is the daughter of Karen Watson, of Arlington, Virginia.  Alex will be attending Virginia Tech this fall.

  • Joseph Jasmin-Yeager (High School Student Category) – $1,000.   Joseph will be attending Old Dominion University this fall.  

  • Awarded earlier this year at the 2024 Cherry Blossom Ball held April 6, 2024, was the Angela Morgan Scholarship.   The $1,000 scholarship was awarded to the 2024 Cherry Blossom Princess, Isabella ‘Bella’ Mansapit.  Bella attends Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia and traveled to Guam in July to represent the Society in the annual Guam Liberation Parade on July 21, 2024.

The 2023 Guam Society Scholarship Application for High School and College Student Packet has been extended through Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 11:59PM. 

Due to Typhoon Mawar, the deadline for these applications was extended to allow for all applicants (especially those on Guam) the time to focus on recovering from the typhoon. 

All other remaining categories for the 2023 application remain the same and are considered closed as of 11:59PM, Monday, May 29, 2023.  

 

In 2023, the Guam Society of America, Inc. intends to award $6,000 in scholarships for eligible college students and graduating high school students pursuing an undergraduate degree.  The Guam Society of America, Inc. For those applying for one of these scholarships, please read through the application packet and ensure that instructions are followed. Remember that a key eligibility requirement for applicants is they must be a member of the Society; student membership is $10.

For 2023, the deadline for submission for the 2022 Scholarship application is 11:59pm Eastern Time (ET), Monday, May 29, 2023.   No exceptions/ extensions will be provided (unless otherwise noted on this page).

Applicants, DO NOT wait until the deadline is near—start the application process now! First step is submitting your membership and we also highly recommend that students start working their references and letters of recommendation.  The Guam Society will be happy to provide feedback on specific areas and will provide additional feedback on submitted packets that are received 30 days before the deadline; this will allow applicants to make any corrections and resubmit updated documents or packet information.  For specific questions about the packet, the process or other information, please send an email to gsascholarship@guamsocietyinc.org.

Parents are encouraged to help their children with the process, however, the scholarship will be awarded to the student, so we are looking to hear directly from the student applicants.

The Guam Society Scholarship Program have the following award categories and amounts available for 2023 Scholarships:

Angela Morgan Cherry Blossom Princess Scholarship:  $1,000*

*This scholarship is only awarded to the Guam Cherry Blossom Princess in honor of Angela Morgan (1962-2017), the Guam Society of America’s first Cherry Blossom Princess selected as the National Cherry Blossom Queen in 1982.  Angela was an avid supporter of the Society’s Cherry Blossom Princess program and always supported its efforts in selecting young women to serve as Ambassadors for the Guam Society of America and to represent Guam in the Cherry Blossom festivities in the spring.

Brigida Guzman Lizama Scholarships

for High School and College Students:

** The Brigida Guzman Lizama Scholarship is named in honor of Auntie Bea Lizama, a steadfast supporter of the Guam Society of America for decades.  Auntie Bea was very vocal about ensuring that the Guam Society be able to provide scholarships for the next generation to support their pursuit of higher education.  The service hours required for this scholarship, represent Auntie Bea’s unfailing support and contributions to the organization over several decades here in the Washington, DC metro area.

Brigida Guzman Lizama High School Student Scholarship:  $1,500**

Brigida Guzman Lizama College Student Scholarship: $1,500**

**NOTE:  Service Hours required for this scholarship is 24 hours.   Note that the Society has designated specific events that applicants can earn these hours towards their application for the 2023 Scholarships.
